Ericsson-LG encourages women to drive the future of ICT

  • Ericsson-LG, as a global ICT leader, tries to nurture future female ICT talents

Ericsson-LG, a leading provider of communications technology and services, started ‘Ericsson-LG Girls in ICT’ program from this year as an effort to nurture future female ICT talents and leaders.

On May 2, Ericsson-LG held Ericsson-LG Open Day event, inviting over 40 female students who are ICT related major at the women’s universities in Seoul area to its head office and the Anyang Research Center. Here, the company shared its ICT vision and insight with the participants, and encouraged the students to have a dream in ICT career. The event began with a presentation on the ICT technology trend, and female engineers of Ericsson joined to share their successful career stories, as well as Q&A session and open discussion with the students.

Ericsson-LG also visited Sookmyung Women’s University and Ewha Women’s University on Apr. 3 and 7, respectively, as a part of ‘Ericsson-LG Girls in ICT’ program. At the visits where more than 200 future ICT talents gathered, Ericsson-LG gave a speech on a variety of topics including ICT market and technology trends, the company’s corporate culture, and virtues required for female talents. Ericsson-LG plans to continue and expand the ‘Ericsson-LG Girls in ICT’ program in the future, in order to help female student foster their vision and dream in ICT industry.

Ericsson, the parent company of Ericsson-LG and a world leader of telecommunications technology and services, has been running ‘Girls in ICT’ programs in 30 cities in 10 regions worldwide. Through the program, Ericsson introduces the charm of the ICT industry to female students and helps them grow as future female ICT professionals.

We hope that our effort serves to attract and nurture capable female talents for the ICT industry where their number has been relatively small traditionally.”

’Girls in ICT’ is an initiative created by ITU to encourage young girls and ladies to have more interest and pursue careers in the ICT industry. In 2012, the program was organized in 90 countries and over 30,000 female students participated.
