Ericsson-LG announced that Girls in ICT 2020 event was held in a non-face-to-face hackathon this year in consideration of COVID-19 situation. Ericsson-LG holds this event every year for female college students in science and engineering, hoping that more female talents will strengthen their capabilities in the ICT sector and become leaders in the future through diversity and inclusion.

Ericsson Research has reported that the use of ICT solutions can reduce global carbon emissions by up to 15% by 2030. This event was held with the theme of supporting sustainable development of the community and making positive changes through ICT technology that enables the transition to a low-carbon economy targeting various industries.

In September, a total of 99 teams submitted proposals with various ideas for solving the current and future climate change issues under the theme of “Reclaim the future.” Among them, ten teams were selected and participated in the final contest through online hackathon on November 10th and 11th.

On the first day, the 10th, hacking began in earnest, starting with basic training and mentoring to implement each team's idea using an actual IoT platform. On the second day, 11th, mentoring and hacking were conducted at the same time, and IoT demos prepared for two days were presented. A, B, and C 3 teams won the final competition and they will be provided with plaque, certificate of award, and opportunities for internship.

Hakan Cervell, CEO of Ericsson LG, said, “Ericsson LG values diversity, and gender diversity is one of the important values for introducing diverse ways of thinking beyond age, background, and education. We believe that we can create more creative and innovative outcomes, and we will continue to strive to reclaim the future through our technology.”
