Ericsson-LG, Hear out 5G service idea from future female ICT CEOs

  • On May 14th, Ericsson-LG held a ‘Girls in ICT’ idea contest pitching day for female STEM university students.
  • 10 out of 48 teams have passed the preliminary round and joined the pitching day event.

Ericsson-LG hosts ‘Girls in ICT’ events every year to celebrate the International Women's Day and encourages more female individuals to join ICT industry. From last year, event format has changed to an idea contest and attracted many female university students who are planning to develop furture job careers in ICT field.

To win this year's contest, total 48 teams submitted applications about ’New service ideas enabled by 5G technical characteristics’. After pre-screening, 10 teams were invited for the pitching day on May 14. The event was full of passion and excitement throughout the entire afternoon. Finally, Whales, LinkAGE, ASMR were awarded for the best 3 teams. All team members were awared with cash prize, award certificate and internship opportunity during school break.

Patrick Johansson, CEO of Ericsson-LG said “For the past two years, Ericsson-LG newly hired about 10 % of the R&D researchers in Korea and 50% of them are female.” and “Ericsson is committed to achieving the goal of 30 % female employees by 2020 and hope that this event will help achieve that goal.”

Lee Ji-hye, who currently works at the Ericsson-LG R&D center and also one of the award winning team members of Girls in ICT 2017, said “During the summer internship, I was able to have a good understanding on actual development works in the company and it helped a lot for the job interview” and “I am currently involved in 5G software development project and I hope this event will create opportunities to have more female colleagues in the company.”
